Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
Current societal and economic trends are spurring the growth of urbanization and industrialization in urban/sub-urban areas, increasing the density of energy-intensive activities. This has as a consequence an increase on the energy consumption but also a degradation on the quality of life in such areas, due to an increased activity, noise and pollution. Indeed, the over-reliance on fossil fuels is one of the main challenge that modern industrial societies have to face. In this regard, Industry 4.0, powered by the use of novel communications and digital tools, paves the way towards effective energy and industrial assets management for a more sustainable society. Within this context, smart grid systems are one of the crucial elements, allowing for an efficient and responsible distribution and use of the electrical power. This requires a rich and secure monitoring system across the distributed infrastructure, so as to gather large amounts of data and deliver them to storage and processing centers for their elaboration and strategy derivation.

Within this context, the current project is focused on the development of a Kafka-based monitoring system for interacting with a SCADA system (the de facto standard for data collection in industrial systems) of a real industrial entity, so as to enable the transfer of information for monitoring and actuation purposes. The monitoring system will require to interact with SQL-based databases for the information gathering as well as the elaboration of the data into structured formats for its sending across the notification systems, all in all providing the means for secure communication across the multiple endpoints.

For the successful execution of the TFM the following objectives are defined:

- Development of an SQL client for interacting with the SCADA system.

- Development of a Kafa producer/consumer system for data distribution.

- Integration and validation of the full monitoring system prototype.
