Nowadays, or at least before Covid-19, flying was very easy.
Everyone who desired to go anywhere in the world just had to search for a ticket and buy it. This easiness of flying made some touristic destinations very affluent. Therefore, there are many flights a day for these destinations, some of them within less than 1-hour. Then, the question easily came, why do they have so many different flights instead of putting all the people in just one? This could possibly be more efficient in many different ways. The aim of this project is to study the impact of using a wide body plane instead of several narrow body planes for a specific touristic destination. First, the current situation and the evolution of the market over the years will be analysed. Afterwards, a comparison of the operation using different planes will be made. For this, the situation of the airports and the airspace, the maintenance of the different planes, the different crew, fuel needed and other parameters can be taken into account. To end with the project a conclusion will be made with the obtained results. |

Overview (resum en anglès): | |
The aim of this project is to study whether is better to use wide- or narrow-body
aircrafts in short-haul flights. Research into short-haul flights shows that there are multiple flights a day travelling the same journey, some of them within less than onehour difference. As a passenger, having a range of choices to plan a trip is a positive aspect, as any option would be suitable for their schedule. But, knowing that the airspace is reaching its maximum capacity and aviation is not environment friendly, the decision to make a study to determine if these problems could be diminished seemed mandatory. The project will follow the next structure. First, an analysis of the evolution of the air traffic in Europe until the current moment and some predictions for the future will be made. Then, a research of what type of planes are preferably used for the different existing routes will be done. Later, the journey between Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport and Gran Canaria airport will be studied and compared if it would be better performed with an A320 or an A330. This study will consist in stablishing the route travelled, examine the weight and balance of both planes and conduct an economical and environmental research. Finally, the results will be revealed and a final conclusion will be made. |
