Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
El treball tracta d'automatitzar el procés tradicional de: anar a un mostrador, ensenyar
credencials, facturar maleta, assignar seient, etc. Tot això amb la finalitat de reduir costs
tant de temps com de personal. Aquest treball s'abordarà amb un programa d'RPA
professional, anomenat UiPath.

Overview (resum en anglès):
The possibility to be able to face the growing demand of latest years in air transport can only be achieved by improving the efficiency of the airport system. The tool which has been helping human tasks to be done in a quicker and safer manner is digitalization. Through digitalization we can deal with massive amounts of data accessing to it very quickly. Notwithstanding all of this, there is one way to take digitalization one step forward into efficiency: automation. This is due to an obvious reason; robots mistake considerably less and work quicker than humans regarding repetitive procedural tasks with very clear rules decision making and when subjectivity does not play a role. Therefore, companies start to implement automation in their daily processes, especially in those which are time consuming and especially expensive because of human work. Covid-19 has been one of the triggers which has made companies realize about the urge of working with the industry of RPA (Robotic Process Automation) to face the future huge dramatical changes coming ahead.

Having an efficient and perfectly synchronized suitcase system is something very complex to achieve. This process is especially critical for the airport system because any mistake during the check-in process may originate baggage losses and not efficient management and procedure may generate long queues in peak hours of the day. In order to decrease the workload in the traditional stands, to achieve a higher flexibility to face the variable demands and taking into account the advances in technology, airlines have started to push more and more for self-check-in services.

In this thesis a study and analysis around the self-check-in kiosk¿s automation will be conducted. The focus will be the ones offered in Josep Tarradellas - El Prat airport at Terminal 1 and under Vueling use policies. Before automating the process, the current situation will be explained to give the reader a background. This explanation will include a review over what are the needs the airport has for this topic, what are the current kiosk properties, what are the limitations from institutional point of view, what types of kiosk exist, etc. To know all this information more in detail, professionals have been interviewed.

The core of this work will be developing the self-check-in process from RPA point of view using the most powerful software existing in automation industry, UiPath. Throughout this thesis all the process which will be developed will be explained as well as additional proposals which could be done with this solution aiming to give extra value. The solution will result in an application which will be also designed with the developed processes incorporated. This app simulates what any passenger would see in the kiosk screen.

To conclude, an evaluation to determine if this approximation can help to make the process more comfortable to all the parts implied will be done. To make it more objective, the results will be rated by a Vueling specialist to know if the new proposals would fit in the real world.
