This project consists in developing a toolkit capable of
analysing a flight database, supplementing additional information, such as flight level, real flown distance, etc. Simulations will then be made using the EUROCONTROL IMPACT flight emission modelling platform, emission information will then be added to the toolkit data base, and specific metrics will be developed. The project will analyse the current situation of the European transport network (emissions, types, standards, regulations, etc) and predict which possible scenarios towards sustainable transition will be reached in the future. |

Overview (resum en anglès): | |
In this thesis, the emissions of the operations carried out by commercial aviation are analyzed. It is estimated that the burn of fossil fuels in aircraft engines produces 2.5% of the world's total carbon dioxide emissions. For this reason, the aeronautical industry is increasingly focused on the production of less polluting and more efficient engines. However, the problem of the emissions does not just lie here, but rather it goes beyond the manufacturers since the commercial strategy of the airlines also has a great implication as seen in this document.
The final objective of this project is to develop an analysis of CO2, studying the operational efficiency of Europe¿s commercial air network and the influence of productivity. For this, an emissions inventory will be carried out from the traffic data MIDT (Market Information Data Tape) which has a historical record of the operations carried out from or to Europe in 2017. For the manipulation, representation and management of the data, Python programming language will be used and for the calculation of emissions, Eurocontrol software IMPACT will be used. The first analysis focuses on the current situation of the air network based on the predominant type of operation and airlines that control the sector. The second analysis aims to quantify CO2 emissions in the operational context, considering that airlines that operate the same aircraft model do not obtain the same efficiency. |
