Overview (resum en anglès): | |
RF & Microwave Receivers are used to detect low level signals. Therefore require high gain and low noise sensitive circuits at the input. These circuits (most of all LNA) are often susceptible to damage if exposed to interfering high level signals.
In many applications, multiplexers are used not only to separating the different signal channels but with the purpose of certain protection through front-end filtering devices (iMux). Nevertheless, often this is not enough. The need for a device which offers a higher degree of protection without degrading the sensitivity of the receiver leads us to use power limiters. Limiters and multiplexers are two of the common parts in most of microwave front-end receivers and the work presented here tries to discuss a couple of limiter solutions which could be suitably combined. Common systems such as RADARs and satellite receivers could be benefit from these solutions. This report presents a detailed summary of the whole procedure starting from the idea coming to our mind and finishing with real measurements in some fabricated prototypes. In Chapter 1 generic concepts about limiter devices and their relation with multiplexers are introduced. Chapter 2 and 3 shows the results of the analysis, simulation, CAD tasks, fabrication and finally measurements carried out for each of the two proposed solutions. Additionally, in the Annex, is possible to find a detailed description of the measuring assemblies used in the laboratory, the appeared problems during the work and how they have been solved. Besides some related mathematical concepts and techniques are also included |
