Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
This proposal aims to study the impact of lightning over aircrafts in differetn fly phases, different fly levels, in different climatic regions. In addition, the work aims also to describe the affectation of this phenomenon over aircrafts and navigation management.
Several databases on civil aviation will be downloaded, an analysis of the impact of storms and the associated lightning will be proposed, in order to answer questions such as what are the region worlwide where aircrafts are hitted frequently by lightning, what is the fly phase, how many accident have been associated by this phenomenon, among some other questions. Additionally, the information from this analysis will be complemented by data provided from statistical information from some aircraft company.

Overview (resum en anglès):

The main objective of this thesis is to study how the lightning phenomena are affecting the aviation world in terms of safety. This project is focused on study the cases where lighting are involved, either causing some damage to the airplane or even causing the airplane’s destruction. The information of all these study cases have been extracted from the meteorological data of lighting recorders companies presented in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) accidents database. Furthermore, it will be analyzed how a lightning strike can be a major event in accident nowadays.
