Electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is a kind of
measurement that yields information about the composition of
any material in a non-destructive way. When coming down to
structured biological tissues (cellular tissues), EIS opens up
the possibility of studying the extracellular and
intracellular mediums as well as the cell membrane hence it is
possible to relate these measurements with specific
pathologies. The aim of this work is to develop a minimum
analog front-end for measuring the impedance of different
tissues with the Analog Discovery 2
(https://reference.digilentinc.com/reference/instrumentation/a
nalog-discovery-2/start), capable of signal generation and
acquisition up to 10 MHz. The target application is related to
the early detection of some of the side effects of diabetes.
The tasks include:
-Analysis, design and implementation of fully-differential
circuits
-Experimental verification (with known impedances) and
validation
-Compare the performance of different digital techniques to
estimate the performance of the impedance (FFT, digital
demodulation, synchronous sampling)
-Programming of a suitable user interface (C++, Python and
LabView are possible platforms) |
