Overview (resum en anglès):
In order to minimize the environmental impact due to the aviation sector, two different measures are proposed throughout this work.

The objectives found in this project are divided in two distinct parts. First of all, it is located a study of the current state of the spanish airport network, while
trying to simplify in order to improve its efficiency. Subsequently a portion of the spanish airpace is optimised by studying the implementation of “Free
Route”, a technique seen in operation in some European countries.

The methodology used to acomplish this writing has basically been the bibliographic review of technical and scientific papers, in addition to the use of the RAMS Plus fast-simulation tool for the second part of the project.

It has been possible to make a small simulation to analyze the impact of modifying conventional routes by direct routes from entry point to exit point from the studied airspace. Afterwards, the results have been obtained and conclusions drawn to see whether this is a good step towards improving performance and reducing the ecological footprint in this much-needed sector.

What alternatives are proposed by eliminating certain airports? Are the benefits promised by the "Free Route" method actually achieved? Does this mean a reduction in CO2 emissions in this sector? These questions, among others, are raised during the study and will ultimately determine whether or not it is feasible to implement the proposed measures.

After a thorough search and analysis of the results, it can be confirmed that these two measures are a good option to improve the efficiency of both the airport network and airspace, in addition to reducing the impact of aviation on the environment today.
