Objectives:
1. To understand the problem of STD predictability in a real operative environment. 2. To define a cause-effect diagram, understanding the role of airport slots and resources assignment in the dynamics of the system. 3. To design an algorithm to manage the resources and the time-line of the turnaround (DSS concept). 4. To apply the DSS to an operating scenario in BCN Airport. Tasks: 1. Definition of the framework and operating procedures. 2. Definition of operating Key Performance Indicators. 3. Algorithm design and implementation. 4. Application to real case: BCN Airport. 5. Conclusions and future research. |

This final project will analyse one of the fundamental parts of a flight: the time in which an airplane is on land during the turnaround, to optimise operations.
The first chapter will explain and go into detail in each process that composes the turnaround of an airplane. Furthermore, the agents involved and the services they must offer. Time and conflict analysis will also be found in this chapter, as well as highlighting the importance of information exchange among the agents involved in the turnaround process. In the second chapter, it is detailed more specific processes such as the procedure that can be followed by an airport to assign the different flights scheduled in their available stands. Beyond assignment process, what communications and what implications there may be. Next, it is analysed the proposals that are offered and what advances and possible improvements there may be in this area being the most important part of the document. In this chapter will be explained the possible ways forward. Also, the work scenario will be introduced. In this case the scenario is the Barcelona airport. Developing it for a known airport, facilitates the tasks, although the project is applicable to any airport. Finally, an algorithm will be developed, with the aim of improving a part of this process as large and composed of several threads as the turnaround. The idea is that from some variables that depend on the specific case that has, this algorithm can offer the best option to follow, ensuring greater efficiency. This way it is possible to understand the problem that has in the process of turnaround of an airplane, starting by explaining all its parts and implications, followed by proposals and possible advances and finally conclusions that are based on the algorithm that guides towards the solution. All this trying to reduce times and improving efficiency, always considering safety, the most important factor in aeronautics and any field. |
