Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
LR-FHSS is a recent physical-layer improvement for LoRaWAN. This technology is expected to allow extended link range and link quality for LoRaWAN deployments, in a variety of scenarios, including satellite-based IoT communication and urban IoT networks, among others.

The main goal in this project is to explore the state of the art of LR-FHSS, in order to determine the existing research findings from the community, as well as open issues and future work. The work will determine the layers (physical or MAC), tools (analysis, simulation, real experimentation), and intended or motivating scenarios (urban, satellite, rural, etc.).

The project may be complemented with practical evaluations performed on a real LR-FHSS environment.

Overview (resum en anglès):
The thesis examines the role of LR-FHSS within the LoRaWAN protocol for large-scale IoT connectivity. It includes a survey of 27 publications until 2025, reviewing performance metrics, protocol enhancements, evaluation tools, and use cases. The literature is systematically categorized by target environments, modulation improvements, and evaluation methods to determine trends and research gaps. In addition, the thesis presents real-world experiments comparing LR-FHSS with standard LoRa across three different deployment scenarios.
