'Así está bien'?

Overview (resum en anglès): This preliminary project determines the technical-economic viability of a beekeeping
operation, and an aromatic plant garden located in Arenys de Mar, Maresme. The apiary
is created within the property of the promoter. It consists of three estates connected with
a total of 6,40 ha of forest and agricultural land, as well as a main use home. The
promoter wants to carry out an economic activity using the resources already present in
the estates with a minimum of investment.

The apiary is programmed so that, from 30 beehives initially, it grows by 10 beehives
annually until it reaches 50. Honey production is estimated at 600 kg, 800 kg, and 1000
kg for the first three years, respectively.

Along with the creation of the apiary, 0,57 ha of aromatics will be planted, which
constitutes the agricultural area that the property has. To meet the water needs of this
plantation, a drip irrigation installation is designed at the preliminary level provided
from a well 40 m deep and a flow of 3,09 m3/h located on the property.

Using the garage with a useful area of 128,75 m2 which the house has, a workshop is
designed taking as a reference the production of honey that will be achieved in the third
year, 1000 kg. The workshop is designed for the correct handling of honey from the
moment it enters the workshop until it is packaged and stored.

The financial study shows that with only 50 apiaries, the proposal is not economically
viable. In this sense, the promoter is recommended to:

- Increase the number of beehives to 130, the number with which economic
balance is achieved.

- Reduce investment (i) by removing the plantation and watering of aromatic
plants or (ii) by selling wholesale honey and, consecutively, not adapting the
garage as a workshop.
