Overview (resum en anglès): | |
The air transport industry is governed by fierce competition between the
different airlines, which are fighting to gain market share by offering better connections at more affordable prices. This competition intensifies the search for methods to reduce costs in order to offer lower prices and maintain the attractiveness of their offer. With this perspective, operations research was born. Operations research is based on the optimization and analytical study of the strategy and planning of the airline's operations. These expand to all areas of operations planning, and analyzes from which flights will be flown to which crew will fly each flight, including which aircraft will be assigned to the operation and which flight routes the aircraft will follow. A model realistic enough to reduce costs in operations can be characterized in this work from the modeling of the delay. This modeling allows a more detailed study of how the delay affects the income statement of an airline. It starts with empirical data that allows determining the probability distribution of the minutes of delay and ends with the use of pseudo-random variables simulating scenarios with different probabilistic values of these delays. Studying how they affect the operating cost. In addition, the strategy of time buffers used by the Ryanair airline is studied in terms of effectiveness and compared with the proposed method. |
