Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) introduces timing and strict quality of service in Ethernet, making it suitable for industrial communications. More details about TSN can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-Sensitive_Networking

TSN is expected to play an important role in the field of aerospace communications: airplane buses, or satellite communications buses, for example. There are ongoing standardization efforts in this field, such as P802.1DP ' TSN profile for Aerospace Onboard Ethernet Communications (https://1.ieee802.org/tsn/802-1dp/)

This thesis will include:

- Searching, following and documenting the current standardization efforts in this area
- Studying in detail the architecture and requirements of TSN applied to aerospace communications
- Searching, installing and testing TSN simulators. Example: https://omnetpp.org/download-items/NeSTiNg.html
- Perform a comparison of capabilities of each simulator
- For the chosen simulator(s), generate scenarios for teaching and research

We will build on the results from previous theses:

Overview (resum en anglès):
Communications within an aircraft range from the interconnection of control and monitoring elements to onboard entertainment functions. Therefore, they play a crucial role in the aerospace industry, requiring compliance with strict safety standards.

This document describes and simulates one of the current standards, AFDX (Avionics Full-Duplex Switched Ethernet), and its potential replacement, TSN (Time-Sensitive Networks). Within TSN, different traffic shapers have been tested, specifically CBS (Credit-Based Shaper) and TAS (Time-Aware Shaper).

The objective of the project has been to document and modify simulation code for potential application in education and to analyze the results obtained by comparing AFDX and TSN. To conduct this comparison, traffic simulations were used. Various available network simulators were compared, concluding that OMNET++ is the most suitable. The simulation scenario is an Airbus A380 during cruise flight. The comparison between the different technologies was made in terms of latency, queue size, and link utilization.

Through this analysis, it has been shown how the capabilities of a TSN network are beneficial and improve upon AFDX networks. This is due to the division that TSN makes between traffic types and how different transmission times are assigned based on the priority of the traffic type.
