Overview (resum en anglès):
Currently, there is a great growth in air traffic worldwide. Due to an increase in demand and limitations in current systems, overload situations can occur, which can compromise safety and operational efficiency.

The Sector Opening Scheme consists of the succession of sector configurations that open during the day. Today, this opening scheme usually lacks the flexibility to adapt to these changes in demand. This final degree project aims to develop an optimization algorithm in A* to improve the Sector Opening Scheme, analyzing the current growing demand and the capacities of the different sectors during time intervals.

The main objective has been to find a series of more flexible and efficient configurations for the opening and closing of sectors, trying to optimize in this way the distribution of resources and reduce overload scenarios.

Results have been obtained based on different simulations, created with real airspace data, which have shown a significant improvement in operational efficiency, reducing overload in some cases by more than 90% and reducing costs by up to 20%.

Finally, it has been concluded that this airspace management through an optimization of the Sector Opening Scheme not only improves efficiency and safety, but also provides a substantial reduction in operating costs, indicating that it is a feasible solution for the rapidly growing demand of air traffic.
