Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:

Overview (resum en anglès): The diversification in the colour of the fruit has arisen interest in the processes of genetic improvement of tomato. In order to select the best genotypes of an F2 population created by presenting segregation in the fruit colour, a brief bibliographic consultation has been made in this End of Degree Paper to see how the mutants of colour (non-ripening (nor), yellow flesh (r), yellow epidermis (y), tangerine (t) and sherry (sh)) affect the metabolism of carotenoids associated with the fruit¿s colour and flavor. The population, result of the mixing of the auto-fecundation of 10 F1 created by Andrea Mazzucato (UNITUS, Italy), have been phenotyped in an experimental patch (Agropolis, Viladecans) using qualitative descriptors to characterize the phenotypical and agronomical parameters of the population. The population has been classified according to the colour in order to study if the different present mutations have some pleiotropic effect on the agronomic characteristics and through participatory selection the best genotypes have been chosen.

The results showed great variability in the population for all the parameters studied, with it being a good platform to perform participative selection work. Out of the studied segregating population, the pale yellow phenotype presented differences associated to the content in soluble solids and the number of fruits per plant, being considered that it could be caused not only by the sherry mutant but also by the interaction of the yellow flesh and yellow epidermis mutants.

The colour profile studied by colorimetry (CIELAB space) showed a good classification of the mutants for the parameters L, a* and b*. The collaboration of several farmers from the Baix Llobregat area allowed to select 12 genotypes of the entire segregating population that presented the best morpho-agronomic characteristics, with 7 of the cherry type and 5 of the salad type. The selected materials are differentiated from the average of the population by the number of fruits per plant, it being a determining characteristic in the farmers appraisement. These 12 genotypes will pass on to the next generation of the genetic improvement program carried out by researcher Andrea Mazzucato in collaboration with the Miquel Agustí Foundation.
