Overview (resum en anglès): This project is about the assess of the improvement in the precision of the genetic analysis in the character of milk production with the introduction of genomics in two farms of Friesian dairy cows. A new technique where the traditional estimated genetic values are combined with the DNA of animals which is possible thanks to the complete sequencing of the bovine genome. As a secondary objective, the correlation between the genotype and the phenotype of the animals for the same character is also assessed and determined. The purpose is to check the usefulness of this tool for the farmer.
Biological samples are taken at the two farms to genotype cows and calves and are sent to the laboratory. Once the results are received, the data is processed to observe if there are any differences in the reliability of the data before and after the genomics and the relationship between the genotype and the phenotype through a statistical analysis.
It is observed that after applying genomics, the reliability increases in both farms on the character with values that are difficult to reach without applying this technique. It is seen that the genotype and the phenotype are correlated and with significant results after applying an ANOVA test.
Finally, it is concluded that genomics is a useful tool available for the farmer. In adult cows to generate optimal couplings but especially in calves as it allows them to know with greater certainty and in advance the expected production values, which eases the decision-making to determine which are the best calves to rear and improve the genetics and thus the farm production.
