Overview (resum en anglès): Lawns are traditionally very demanding crops with water needs, and they prefer climates where there are no dry seasons. In the Mediterranean climate we have mild temperatures, but in the summers there are periods of drought that hinder their growth and force them to add water.
The multinational seed company DLF, based in Denmark, proposes to the Barcelona School of Agro-Food Engineering and Biosystems to carry out a trial to observe the possibility of planting different varieties and species of lawns and to see their viability and resistance in the Mediterranean climate and under different irrigation regimes, to assess drought resistance. This work focuses on the implementation of this trial, from the preparation of the land, to the moment of differentiating the irrigations.
The germination of all tested varieties was correct except for the Bermuda varieties that did not germinate until after 9 months. The maximum values are found in the varieties of Lollium perenne, Festuca arrundinacea and Agrostis stolonifera. The Poa varieties had a very slow establishment.
In terms of implementation, after 10 months of starting the test, the best results were obtained with the varieties of Festuca arrundinacea with an overall rating close to the maximum possible value. The Lollium variety, Quickston, has not been implanted correctly and has the worst values in all parameters. We do not have evaluations of the implementation of bermudas due to their slow implementation.
