Overview (resum en anglès):
The motivation for this work is defined mainly by two reasons. The first one is a lack of information related to aircraft maintenance during the university studies, and the second one is the large amount of EETAC alumni entering this industry without the basic knowledge. While it is true that key transversal skills applicable to the job market are acquired, it is equally important having a knowledge base applicable to a specific sector, such as aircraft maintenance.
By studying a Part-145 maintenance organisation, we can gain basic knowledge regarding aircraft and their maintenance. Therefore, in the first two chapters of this work, the main concepts related to aircraft maintenance will be mentioned, with the aim of creating a solid foundation that can serve as an introduction to the world of aircraft maintenance.
In the third chapter, which marks the second part of this work, a more technical aspect of a maintenance organisation will be addressed: the study of the scheduled hours, known as Overview, abbreviated as OV, and the actual hours performed on the nightshift over the two years of study. This difference between scheduled hours and performed hours is explained by the concept of de-assigned hours or tasks. All these concepts will be explained in more detail in the body of this work.
The objective of this third chapter is to identify the most recurring reasons that prevent the completition of all scheduled hours, in order to draw conclusions that allow the proposal of new methods to implement, therby improving the overall development of the OV each night.
Prior to the study, the following hypotheses are formulated:
¿ In 2022, there was a greater number of de-assigned hours or tasks compared to 2023, due to the more recent relationship between client and provider.
¿ The de-assigned hours or tasks due to lack of Man Power have decreased throughout 2023.
¿ During the summer months, there is a greater number of de-assigned hours due to lack ground time, as it is high season.
¿ During the winter months, de-assigned hours or tasks due to bad weather are increased.
¿ On days where there is no L-Check scheduled, or only one, there are more de-assigned hours because there are more hours scheduled.
In the fourth and final chapter, a series of improvement proposals will be made, which will also serve to suggest possible future studies.
