Lloc de realització: EETAC

Paraules clau:
New routes, ETOPS, performance, narrow-body, long-haul

Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
With more efficient and newer engines the latest developed
narrow-bodies can
fly longer distances making feasible to operate newer routes that
do not have
enough demand as to operate with wide-body aircrafts. This study
aims to
analyze the feasibility of new routes from Palma de Mallorca
airport
(PMI/LEPA) to destinations outside Europe also considering:
- The high volume of traffic at PMI airport during summer seasons
- Alternative airports for all assessed destinations
- ETOPS routes and suitable airports considering ETOPS
certifications for
the studied aircrafts.

Overview (resum en anglès):
Given the volume of passengers currently traveling to the island of Mallorca, the remaining capacity available at the airport and the arrival on the market of new single-aisle aircraft, more sustainable and with a greater range, it is of particular interest to study the possible entry of these new aircraft into markets, unexploited until that given moment, with direct flights by the various airlines from and to the island of Mallorca, a claim that has been made for years to diversify the origin of tourists on the island.

This study aims to evaluate the possibility of operating long-haul routes from and to Palma de Mallorca to destinations located in the United States, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and India using single-aisle aircraft with greater range minimizing or removing the potential capacity limitations that could appear and following the different regulations that apply depending on the type of flight being made as well as trying to follow the different recommendations. A comparison is also made between the different models of single-aisle aircraft candidates to operate these routes to show which is best suited to each of them.

An analysis is also made to locate the current and near future state of tourism on the island of Mallorca in terms of current destinations and number of operators per route, availability of means and boarding gates, both remote and contact, at Palma airport as well as the remaining capacity of the boarding gates for a full week at the peak tourist season.
