The aim of this project is to advance in the design of the vtail of an eVTOL aircraft. The Vtail must warrant lateral and longitudinal stability as well as full control.

The main focus will be placed on a realistic design and preliminary development of the Vtail, including both simulation and, if possible, wind tunnel experiments.

The work plan will be as follows:

0) Review the preliminary conceptual design of the vtail.
conceptual technology.
1) Analyse the minimal vtail dimensions and optimal shape for OEI situation.
2) Analyse the performance in regular manoeuvring.
3) Study the aerodynamics interaction of vtail and fuselage.
4) Design of primary and secondary flight control surfaces for pitch and yaw control.
4) Lift integration study of all external parts of the aircraft combined.
 
Overview (resum en anglès):

EVTOLs (Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) are electric vehicles that, as their name suggests, can land and take off vertically, without the need for a runway like a conventional aircraft would. This innovative concept allows us to envision a different world from what we have today, especially with an initiative called Urban Air Mobility (UAM).

Urban Air Mobility is a potential new form of aviation that aims to implement EVTOL technology within cities. The goal is to reduce the widespread use of combustion vehicles that currently exist, in order to mitigate the CO2 emissions that contribute to pollution.

In recent years, many companies have emerged seeking to capitalize on this opportunity, and among them is the startup ONAerospace. The project involves developing an EVTOL capable of performing operations within the city and also executing rescue and/or medical assistance missions, which is another significant functionality of these vehicles due to their ability to land in confined spaces.

This thesis involves designing a tail for ONAerospace's EVTOL, specifically a V-tail. This type of tail is quite common on EVTOLs due to its lightweight nature and structural benefits compared to a conventional tail.

To design the tail, the following steps. First, parameters for a conventional T-tail were calculated, and then the conversion to a V-tail was performed, which provides the same aerodynamic performance as the previously designed conventional tail. Additionally, an aerodynamic study was conducted using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with the Ansys Fluent program to find the optimal wing profile for the aircraft tail. All the work has been done in coordination with the other authors involved in the design of the various parts of the aircraft.
