Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
The thesis aims to analyze the business model of airports beyond aeronautical exploitation, focusing on the benefits derived from non-aeronautical revenue sources such as duty-free malls and other commercial activities. Additionally, the thesis will examine the ownership structure of airports and its influence on strategic investments made within a specific airport. Moreover, the study will explore the impact of different airport philosophies, such as hub-and-spoke models, on the overall business model.

The study will focus on how airports have evolved into multifaceted entities, encompassing several commercial ventures. Also, we will study the relationship between ownership types (e.g., government-owned, privatized, or public-private partnerships) and their impact on the strategic investments on the studied airports.
The project will examinate several airports with different models to measure its impact on the airport revenue generation and the overall financial performance.

With that said, the main objectives of the thesis are:

1. Analyze the non-aeronautical revenue streams of airports, focusing on non-aeronautical activities.
2. Investigate the ownership structure of airports and assess its influence on strategic investments, examining the differences between government-owned, privatized, and public-private partnership airports.
3. Examine the impact of different airport philosophies, such as hub-and-spoke models, on the overall business model, revenue generation strategies, and financial performance.
4. Provide insights and observations of how airport management, stakeholders, and policymakers can optimize revenue generation, improve efficiency, and enhance the profitability of airports.

Overview (resum en anglès):
In this study we will carry out a detailed analysis of the revenue sources of modern airports in the European context, paying special attention to the revenues generated through non-aeronautical activities. We will analyze in depth how regulations have evolved both in the USA and in Europe, we will review the different airport ownership models and we will carry out a study on which indicators play an important role or not in the percentage of non-aeronautical revenues of an airport.
