Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
The population of geostationary satellites is crucial for our modern life. The signals that they transmit are essential for multiple purposes (weather forecasting, telecommunications, entertainment, ...). However, their positions are sometimes known with rather large uncertainties, which may raise false collision alerts and increase operational costs. GMV is developing its own network of passive ranging stations to accurately determine the position of the geostationary satellites. Passive ranging is an innovative technology allowing the fast location of radio-emitting satellites with exquisite accuracy. The current TFM will focus on the use of passive ranging to greatly improve the position uncertainties of the geostationary satellite population. The work will also allow the characterization of the signal of the emitting satellites and their executed maneuvers. During this TFM, the student will deepen the understanding of software development, passive ranging capabilities and orbit determination tools in a sector that is expected to grow exponentially during the following years.
