Abstract

The connected car is emerging because of the convergence between the automotive industry and information technology (IT), taking advantage of advances such as 5G and, on the horizon, the potential development of 6G. This approach allows the vehicle, considered as an Internet of Vehicles (IoV) device, to establish wireless (V2X) connections to share relevant information. Key aspects, such as vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V), interaction with infrastructure (V2I) and cloud connection (V2C), stand out as crucial elements to improve road safety, operational efficiency, emergency response and entertainment in the driver experience.
The concept of the connected car has been present in the technological landscape for some time. However, its prominence and emergence as a leading technology took place with the change in the industrial paradigm associated with the information society in the year 2000. The
convergence of various technologies in recent decades, together with the opening of the technological paradigm, has accelerated the development of the connected car, bringing it to the present day where there are already implementations of it.
Like any revolutionary technology, the connected car faces a variety of challenges that, once overcome, will allow it to reach its full potential and have a transformative impact on everyday life. These challenges need to be addressed and measured accurately, given their sensitive nature. Aspects such as cybersecurity, protecting the integrity of vehicle systems, and driver privacy, as well as consumer acceptance and trust, are crucial. In addition, environmental and socio-economic concerns must be considered, as well as the need for adequate infrastructure, including the deployment of appropriate technologies (5G, 6G, Wi-Fi, etc...) and the adaptation of roads, to avoid limitations in the effective deployment of the connected car.
The complexity of these challenges lies in the multiplicity of perspectives involving technological, social, environmental, and economic aspects. As the discussion on the challenges associated with the connected car deepens, new edges appear and additional problems arise, giving place to the need for innovative and adaptive solutions. A comprehensive understanding of these challenges is essential to move towards a connected car that delivers on its transformative potential effectively.

Motivation

The motivation to address this topic is, first, of a personal nature, as I have recently experienced a change of sector and am currently part of the development of the connected car. This experience has led me to recognize the relevance and significant potential of this field, prompting me to consider that my contribution can be valuable.
In addition, the choice of this theme is based on the perception that the connected car represents an innovative and transformative technology, with the ability to serve society and provide value to users. This technology redefines the concept of mobility and has a significant socio-economic impact. By immersing myself in this field, I aim to understand and contribute to the process of change in the way we move, recognizing its possibilities and challenges.
The exciting innovative nature of the connected car also motivates my interest. This technology is part of an ambiguous but fascinating future, in which we are heading at frenetic speeds. I consider it essential hand in hand with this change in order not only to observe, but also to contribute to and enjoy up close the transformations in the social landscape.
