Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
The concept of swarm robotics is inspired by the swarm behaviour observed in biological studies of insects and other natural phenomena. Just as a swarm of ants and wasps is unlikely due to their different communication methods and other disparities, one might expect the same challenges with heterogeneous robotic swarms. However, this idea of a heterogeneous swarm has numerous potential applications and can enhance the robustness of the swarm by incorporating several types of robotic individuals. Specifically, this project explores the formation of a heterogeneous swarm of drones for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in challenging environments.
The aim of this project is to develop this concept by focusing on three fundamental pillars that support the swarm:
1. Drones: The muscle of the swarm, responsible for executing the necessary search tasks.
2. Middleware: The brain of the swarm, coordinating the drones and managing the information exchanged with the ground control centre.
3. Radio Link: The communication channel that connects the swarm with the SAR team.
This project seeks to demonstrate how a heterogeneous swarm of drones can effectively perform SAR operations in non-favourable terrains, showcasing the potential benefits and increased robustness of such systems.
