Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
In this project, the tensile after-impact behavior of a composite material designed for aerospace application will be investigated through Finite Element Analysis, using various damage models and techniques. In particular, we will investigate the effect of different impact energies on the CFRP sample and characterize its effect on tensile strength. The material will be modelled in Abaqus and the specimen will be designed in Catia. The process to complete this objective will be as follows:

1. Literature search and review of relevant bibliography for composite material.
2. Formation of suitable software (e.g., Catia, Abaqus, Helius Composite Tools, etc.)
3. Numerical analysis/Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of the problem
a. Design of the CAD geometry or geometries.
b. Meshing of the geometry or geometries. Different meshing techniques will be studied.
c. Definition of the physics of the problems and the boundary conditions.
d. Define the solver settings and solve the problems with a suitable solver.
e. Post-processing and analysis of the obtained results
4. Processing of FEA results: calibration of numerical results from FEA with experimental
results, comparison of results, etc.
5. Draw conclusions from the study, write the thesis, and prepare the final presentation.

Orientació a l'estudiant:
The student is expected to have an engineering background with a particular interest in structures, materials, design, and analysis of different physical phenomena related to mechanical characterization. Proficiency in at least one FEA package or code and basic skill in constructing 3D models in Catia or other CAD software.

The workload for this project is estimated to be around 25 hours per week.
