Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
This project presents a study of the open fan architecture, combining conceptual analysis, blade design and computational fluid dynamics simulation. The main objective is to develop and evaluate rotor and stator blade geometries that can improve propulsive efficiency while respecting realistic constraints.
The work begins with a state-of-the-art review of current open-fan developments, paying special attention to the principles and performance of the CFM RISE concept. This review helps define the performance indicators, geometries and operating conditions that will guide the design phase. A brief overview of earlier
contra-rotating concepts is also included to justify the selection of a rotor-stator configuration for this study.

A parametric blade design will be created in SolidWorks, allowing controlled variation of key geometric features such as chord, pitch, twist, camber, number of blades and rotor-stator spacing. These blade sets will be integrated around a simplified engine-core geometry to realistically represent the open-fan module.
The resulting geometries will be studied using ANSYS Fluent. Simulations will be conducted to analyse rotor-stator interaction, swirl development and wake evolution. If feasible, a simplified aeroacoustic estimation will also be conducted.
The expected outcome is a validated aerodynamic assessment of the open fan concept, identifying promising blade designs and offering guidance for future improvements and more advanced studies.

Orientació a l'estudiant:
The student will learn the main features regarding open-fan design based on the CFM RISE engine. She/He has to analyze the crucial performance indicators, as geometries and operating conditions before entering the design phase. She/He has to become familiarize with the main characteristic features, e.g. blade design, key geometric features such as chord, pitch, twist, camber, number of blades and rotor-stator spacing, etc. Programming languages as Matlab, SolidWorks software,
and Python will be learned and/or deepen. Simulations will be performed via AnsysFluent in order to analyse rotor-stator interaction. Supervisor and student will meet regular basis about once a week to evaluate the progress and discuss the following steps. In case of bigger problems the student can approach the supervisor any time in order to solve the problems as soon as possible in order to avoid any hold backs.

Horari d'atenció a estudiants per a l'assignació de projecte:
Regular meetings of about 1-2h will be setup weekly in order to check, discuss and evaluate the progress as well to plan the following steps. In case of bigger problems extraordinary meetings will be done as soon as possible.
