| In this project the operational efficiency of the two aircraft families Boeing 737 and Airbus 320 will be analyzed. Among others, this analysis will involve a study of the different engine options (discussion of bypass ratio) material selection (composites or conventional metal alloys), as well as any recent innovation that increases efficiency in the particular type of engine (for instance, geared turbofans). Further focus will be given to geometry and design of the wings, aircraft weights, and configurations. These studies will lead to a justification of the typical fuel consumption and, therefore, to a conclusion about flight efficiency. Aside, further additional operational costs of each aircraft family will be investigated. These include the maintenance costs and their frequency, the initial cost to purchase the aircraft, reliability (from a safety and economic perspective), the suitable and flexibility of type of routes (regional, short-haul or medium-haul) and, finally, a study of the possible cabin configurations to maximize profit depending on the route demand (trade-off between better seats at higher prices and more seats to accommodate more passengers). | |

| The student will learn the key features operational efficiency and flexibility in flights consider fuel consumption, maintenance, and aircraft reliability. Different aerodynamic designs will be analyzed and evaluated. Particular focus
will be given to the flexibility of the two aircraft families, A320 and B737, with respect to passenger numbers, range and rearrange possibilities. Key features on operating conditions will be evaluated. The student has to familiarize with operational and planing procedures from efficiency and economical perspective. Supervisor and student will meet regular basis about once a week to evaluate the progress and discuss the following steps. In case of bigger problems the student can approach the supervisor any time in order to solve the problems as soon as possible in order to avoid any hold backs. |

| Horari d'atenció a estudiants per a l'assignació de projecte: Regular meetings of about 1-2h will be setup weekly in order to check, discuss and evaluate the progress as well to plan the following steps. In case of bigger problems extraordinary meetings will be done as soon as possible. |
