| Among the various airport processes, baggage handling represents one of the most sensitive and error-prone activities, as it involves multiple stakeholders, tight time constraints and a high volume of items to be managed simultaneously. Inefficiencies in baggage handling may result in delays, increased operational costs, and passenger dissatisfaction, particularly in cases of mishandled or delayed luggage.
Currently, many airports still rely on systems that combine automated processes with manual procedures for baggage tracking, especially in intermediate stages such as the baggage handling area and the loading of luggage into the aircraft hold. These manual interventions increase the risk of human error and make it difficult to obtain real-time information on the exact status and location of each suitcase. In this context, the use of Design and Feasibility Analysis of an RFID-Based Baggage Traceability System in Airport Operations has emerged as a promising solution to improve baggage traceability. RFID enables automatic identification and tracking of objects without requiring direct line of sight, allowing continuous monitoring throughout the handling process. The objective is to be able to obtain a trace of the baggage from the moment the suitcase arrives at the baggage handling area until it is loaded into the aircraft hold. The implementation will be carried out by applying RFID technology and a software system that allows managing, recording and consulting the status of each suitcase during the process, with the aim of improving airline operations, reducing delays and minimizing procedures that are currently performed manually. The work is based on the analysis of the current system, the design of an RFID-based system, the implementation of management software and the evaluation of the feasibility of the proposed solution. |
