Descripció del contingut i pla d'activitats:
Modern space- and ground-based surveys produce large volumes of irregularly sampled time-series data whose classification and validation remain technically challenging. This project focuses on the analysis of real survey data, with emphasis on human-based classification and assessment of existing catalogue labels.

The dataset comprises approximately 1900 candidate binary systems selected using astrometric and photometric measurements from the Gaia satellite, with corresponding optical light curves from the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF). A significant fraction of these sources have prior classifications in external catalogues, enabling systematic comparison and validation.

The student will carry out structured visual inspection of the ZTF light curves to identify variability patterns and to construct a human-validated reference classification. Results will be compared with catalogue information to quantify agreement, identify discrepancies, and assess sources of uncertainty. The project emphasises time-series interpretation, data quality assessment, and reproducible analysis.

Orientació a l'estudiant:
This project is suitable for final-year undergraduate students with a basic background in data analysis and time-series interpretation. Familiarity with plotting and handling numerical data (e.g. using Python or similar tools) is expected, but no prior knowledge of astrophysics is required, as the necessary scientific context will be provided. The project involves regular independent work, including visual inspection and documentation of results, with periodic meetings with the supervisor for guidance and feedback. A consistent weekly time commitment and availability for scheduled supervision meetings are expected.
