| Aircraft trajectory data obtained from GNSS or surveillance systems are widely used for aircraft performance analysis. However, these measurements are affected by positioning errors and measurement noise, which may reduce the accuracy of trajectory-based estimation algorithms. State estimation techniques, such as Kalman filtering, provide an effective solution to improve the quality of navigation data before further processing.
The objective of this thesis is to design, implement, and evaluate a Kalman Filter-based preprocessing stage for an existing aircraft thrust estimation framework developed by the ICARUS research group. The framework estimates the instantaneous engine thrust from aircraft trajectory data, including latitude, longitude, altitude, and timestamps. Rather than modifying the thrust estimation algorithm itself, this project focuses on improving the quality of its input data. By filtering noisy trajectory measurements before the thrust estimation stage, the project aims to obtain more reliable state estimates and assess their impact on the stability and accuracy of the computed thrust." |
