Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) introduces timing and strict quality of service in Ethernet, making it suitable for industrial communications. More details about TSN can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-Sensitive_Networking
5G/6G networks are also starting to be used in industrial communications. Therefore, some kind of gateway between TSN and 5G/6G is needed, and that is the role of the recently defined 5G User Plane Function (UPF) and TSN Translator (TT) function. For more details, see https://www.ericsson.com/en/blog/2021/2/how-5g-integrates-tsn-systems This thesis will include: - Studying in detail the architecture and requirements of the UPF and TT functions, and its evolution in 6G networks - Designing and implementing a prototype of both functions. - Integrating the control planes of both TSN and 5G/6G networks - Testing the prototype We will build on the results from previous theses: https://upcommons.upc.edu/handle/2117/348819 https://mitra.upc.es/SIA/PFC_PUBLICA.DADES_PFC?w_codipfc=10473 |
